Strandby Huse: Nestled in the Hillside

Strandby Huse, offers 48 new rental properties, just a stone’s throw from Hundige Station. Sustainability has been a top priority, which is reflected in a pre-certification for DGNB gold. Strandby Huse consists of three housing blocks located in a very varied terrain. The houses are placed on the low-lying part of the hillside, which creates some interesting and irregular outdoor spaces between the buildings.

Based on the planting typology of the sheltered location, the high ground that meanders around the site is planted with a lush planting belt of robust native species, which helps to screen and give the plot a natural expression with seasonal variation. From the slope, rainwater from roof surfaces and surface water is led via open and piped gutters to three lush rainwater beds, which helps to create fertile ground for high biodiversity. Gravel paths wind over water channels and between rainwater beds, and create access to and between the buildings. The ground floor apartments have private terraces surrounded by wild free-standing bushes with direct access to the common areas. The hillside forms an active part of the play area, with balance elements and play equipment that incorporate the steep slope as an integrated play element.
