(The project was made in collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritz Arkitekter)
The courtyard space is framed by the private terrace of the ground-floor apartments, and the planting in the beds subdivides the courtyard into smaller rooms, which are furnished with different functions. A play area, for example, provides space for free play for the children in the area, while living room furniture invites short or long-term stays. On the outside of the building, the ground floors have raised terraces that are wrapped in lush vegetation and green terrain walls. A terraced division will be established around them to compensate for the terrain that falls approximately two meters across the site. In the south-west corner, the surroundings are invited in for outdoor dining on a small terrace.
The courtyard strives to achieve a green and lush appearance, despite the pressured growing conditions, as it is located on top of a basement deck. Multi-stemmed trees grow on top of small hills, and under the trees a dense ground cover of native shrubs is planted, supplemented by robust perennials and bulbs, ensuring variety throughout the year – such as flowering, fruiting and harvest colours. The edge of the beds is dissolved by a shift in the tiling. In this way, a more fluid transition between the fortified and unfortified areas is ensured. From the path, the transitions to the central room are marked with stepping stones.
