Sluseholmen

Sluseholmen is a new neighborhood in Copenhagen’s Sydhavn area near Sjællandsbroen and across from the park Amager Fælled on the other side of the water. Sluseholmen consists of eight artificially installed islands with about 1,300 new Dutch-inspired canal buildings and pier houses in various colors and sizes. The total development has a block structure, through which streets, bridges, and canals move.

Danielsen Architecture’s contribution to Sluseholmen is a façade project. The use of brick is inspired by the Dutch canals, both in reference to new elements from Java and Borneo, but also to the classic buildings of Amsterdam. The apartment buildings tower alongside small townhouse homes, with the overall impression of cohesive buildings characterized by individual homes with their own identities.
